SSC Stenographer 2026: Vacancy Revised to 1,275, Exam in Aug-Sep

The Staff Selection Commission released the Stenographer Grade 'C' and Grade 'D' Examination 2026 notification on 24 April 2026 with 731 tentative vacancies. SSC has since revised the vacancy figure, and as per the latest revised vacancy notice issued on 11 August 2026, the total stands at 1,275 posts - 1,129 for Grade 'D' and 146 for Grade 'C' - spread across various central government ministries, departments and organisations. Candidates who applied online between 24 April and 15 May 2026 are eligible to appear for the Computer-Based Examination, which SSC has scheduled for the August-September 2026 window; the Commission is yet to announce the exact CBT date and exam city slip. Eligible candidates needed to be 12th pass with a diploma or certificate in stenography, and aged 18-30 years for Grade 'C' or 18-27 years for Grade 'D' as on 1 August 2026. After the CBT, shortlisted candidates will undergo a qualifying Skill Test in stenography followed by document verification before final selection.
